8th Annual Butterfly Celebration

A life-affirming expression of hope and peace, our Butterfly Celebration is a unique opportunity to honor loved ones, both living and deceased, by sponsoring a butterfly in their name.  Butterflies herald the return of spring and the renewal of life.  Their release signifies freedom and happiness.  The highlight of the Butterfly Celebration is the mass release and flight of over 100 Monarch butterflies accompanied by live flute and harp music.

This year's Butterfly Celebration will be held on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 9^th at 2:00 pm in the gardens at Germanna Community College at Locust Grove.  The butterflies will be released at 3:00, weather permitting.

Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a Mother's Day afternoon in a beautiful setting.  There will be children’s activities so the whole family can enjoy the day along with a raffle of several handmade butterfly quilts (in a variety of sizes).  Raffle tickets are $5 each or three for $10 and can be purchased at the event or by calling 540-825-4840.

New for 2010 we are offering a number of sponsorship opportunities which enable area businesses and individuals to play a larger role in this wonderful event.  For more information or to become a sponsor contact Craig Wilt directly at 540-825-4840 or cwilt@hotr.org.  All sponsorships over $100 include recognition in the Butterfly Celebration program, Hospice of the Rapidan's newsletter, website and event press information.  Sponsorship levels and additional benefits are as follows:

Grand Monarch -$5,000

Up to 50 names in the event program, 25 box lunches, tent & table for display materials

 

Compassionate Monarch -$3,000

Up to 30 names in the event program, 15 box lunches & table for display materials

 

Dignified Monarch - $2,000

Up to 20 names in the event program, 10 box lunches & table for display materials

 

Healing Monarch -$1,000

Up to 15 names in the event program, 5 box lunches & table for display materials

 

Family Monarch -$500

Up to 10 names in the event program, 2 box lunches & a custom family portrait

 

Friendship Monarch -$100

Members of the community are also invited to sponsor butterflies in memory of loved ones or to honor someone special.  No prior hospice affiliation is necessary.  Sponsorship is $25 per butterfly and includes recognition of the names of those honored in the Butterfly Celebration program.  To sponsor butterflies call Craig Wilt at 540.825.4840 or click here to contact him by email.

   

Butterfly sponsorships and raffle proceeds support Hospice of the Rapidan’s grief care program, which provides free, comprehensive grief support for anyone who has lost a loved one, regardless of hospice affiliation.  Services include individual and telephone support, grief support groups, printed information, and services tailored to the special needs of children.  Medicare and private insurance do not reimburse Hospice of the Rapidan for the cost of these services, which are entirely funded by support from the communities we serve.

Deadline for recognition in the program is Friday, April 16th.
