Hospice Support of
Fauquier County

Family Grief Camp
Saturday, June 22, 2011
Verdun Adventure Bound, Rixeyville

Hospice of the Rapidan, along with Spiritual Care Support Ministries and Hospice Support of Fauquier County, will present a one-day camp for children ages 6 to 14 along with their parent(s) or other caregivers who are grieving the death of a loved one.  The location, Verdun Adventure Bound in Rixeyville, offers many indoor and outdoor recreational activities so the camp will take place rain or shine.

As with all of our grief care services, this camp will be free and is open to all who have been touched by loss regardless of hospice affiliation, so please feel free to refer this camp to anyone who might benefit.  Pre-registration is required and children must be accompanied by a parent or other caregiver.  Click here to download the registration form.

The camp program will include activities and sessions just for children, for children and their parents (or other caregivers) together, and just for adults.  Professional grief care providers will facilitate all of the sessions and specially trained grief-care volunteers will be available to assist and support each camper and adult.  For safety reasons, all camp staff will have clear criminal background checks.

Of course, no camp experience is complete without lots of food and fun.  We expect that the mutual support children experience while engaging in team activities will be an essential element of the camp’s success.   Smiling is an essential step in progressing through grief, and a goal for the camp is to promote lots of smiles, laughter, and healing.  Tough topics will be addressed too, because the pain of loss must be faced for healing to move forward. Personal grief support and guidance will be offered for parents and other caregivers as well to help restore confidence and renew hope as they support their grieving children.
